We got this one from the Sheng Siong Supermarket in Geylang, Singapore. The photos of the bowl and its contents are shown below.
The contents of the bowl are shown below.
The bowl contains the plastic wrapped noodle block, a plastic fork, a sachet of seasoning paste and a sachet of 2-in-1 seasoning powder and dried garnish.
Preparation is easy. Empty the contents of the sachets into the bowl and pour in boiling water. Cover the bowl and let the noodles sit for 3 minutes. Stir well before serving. We followed the serving suggestion on the lid quite closely and added tomato, leafy greens and scallions as additional garnish.
The wheat flour broad noodles were thick and had a good chewy texture to them. If you’re sick of regular instant ramen, then you will definitely appreciate this one.
The broth was surprisingly much milder than we had expected from the color, scoring only 1 chili. It had a pleasant sour flavor from the vinegar and tomato-based broth which combined very well together with the broad noodles. In a way, it tasted like a Sichuanese variant of an tomato spaghetti sauce. The dried garnish contained some dried peas and tomatos which added a complementary change of flavor to the overall dish.
Overall we give the Baijia Ah Kuan Sichuan Broad Noodle Tomato & Sour Flavor a final score of 3 stars.
